Definition of a “club”
a formal association of people with similar
Interests, who unite
with a common purpose, who gather and spend time
Together, to contribute to a
joint or common purpose.
Did you know? * That
it actually takes a minimum of forty people (*yes I
said 40!*)* *to prepare
and run an event at your club. Taking into
consideration that
most of the forty people may have to spend the entire day
doing the same task. Also, take into consideration that most of the people
have usually worked
all week as well, and would also, dearly love to watch
their little champs
race their little hearts out.
These are some of
the jobs that need to be done;-
Track preparation for usually 3-5 days before an event, which
needs between 3-6
people.
Sign-on - at least 3-4 people for a couple of hours in the morning
of the event.
Scrutineering - at least 3 people to check that all machines
are
mechanically sound.
Canteen - at least 2 days preparation and purchasing of food,
drinks etc. Also, 3-4 people for the whole day of an event, maybe more if a
major event.
Scoring - At least 3 people is best to ensure that none of our
little darlings are
missed racing over the finish line.
Backlapping - this is the art of making sure that all the little
darlings have completed
all their laps and so we know how many points they
have earned for each
race.
 Flagging - Aaghh!
(excuse my bad language) fourteen people are
required to cover
all the flag points and also an additional two, one for
the start gates and
one for the finish line.
Officials - we require at least three officials to legally run
the
event.
These are changing
times; we are living everyday with more and more riding
venues being closed
due to the urban sprawl. Let us all work together to
preserve the clubs
we still have available. The club is really what we all
make it. We all need to pull together and help out just a little on each
club day. Surely, if everybody comes to their club day expecting to make a
small contribution
it will ensure that the day is a successful one. At the
moment there are a
handful of volunteers that are doing everything and are
at great risk of burning
out.
*So, let us know next
club day, what you will be able to help with. (It can
be as little as half
an hour of your time!) And lets make it an enjoyable
day for EVERYONE!!!*
